Cultural Olympiad, London, 2012.
In the days leading up to The London Olympics the city held an arts festival to celebrate The Games. I was commissioned as the official photographer for one of the main events, Elizabeth Streb's 'One Extraordinary Day'. The commission involved recci'ing all locations and working out best places and angles to achieve great pictures. I then attended choreography rehearsals so I understood the content. On the day was the first time anyone (including the performers) had done the stunts and so nailing the photography was crucial to the success of the national media campaign. Pictures were used throughout all national UK media (and abroad) including front pages. The event saw daredevil performers leaping across some of London’s most famous landmarks in a display that fused dance and acrobatics. The event, named ‘One Extraordinary Day’ saw US choreographer Elizabeth Streb’s troop of acrobatic dancers suddenly appear on the city’s landmarks, vaulting, twisting and leaping in perfect synchronisation. The event was part of the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad in honour of The Olympics.
